See a Travel Doctor.

Go see a doctor that specializes in travel medicine before you leave and get the necessary prescriptions and shots. You’ll probably be prescribed anti malarial meds, antibiotics, and perhaps some vaccinations (Hepatitis A+B,Typhoid, Meningitis, Diphtheria, Polio, Tetanus). Most medicine can be acquired cheaply abroad, especially in Asia, so it may be unnecessary to stock up at home.

If you’re planning to travel to certain countries in Africa or to other countries after a visit to the African continent, it’s worthwhile to get the yellow fever vaccination. A special card comes with the vaccination (seen above), which is required to enter certain countries. In reality I’ve only needed this a few times, even when it’s supposedly required. But I imagine it would have been a nightmare trying to deal with border security if I hadn’t (especially in non English speaking countries).
